Rocca di Frassinello Poggio Alla Guardia 2019 $12.99 compare at $22
92 Points James Suckling
Aromas of black fruit, currants, oyster shells, iodine, cocoa and herbs. It’s full-bodied with tight, firm tannins. Structured and savory..

We have a really sharp price on this this Super-Tuscan Valadorna. I have good and bad news. I feel bad because we had a promotional image inside of our app stating that the price would be going up a lot next month. It is going up but probably just by $5 now. The supplier had a change of heart it seems. Not intentional on my part.

Arcanum 'Valadorna' Toscana 2016 $39.99 compare at $75
96 Points Decanter
The celebrated 2016 vintage in Tuscany continues to impress. This Bordeaux blend is based on Merlot but has a slightly Left Bank style, and will soon become the estate's current vintage of Valadorna, due to be released this year. Aged in 60% new French oak, it is polished and intense, with bramble fruit, earthy balsamic tones...

Il Fauno is the 2nd label from Valadorna and THIS is actually taking a more significant price increase next month percentage wise. Going up to $34.99.

Arcanum Il Fauno di Arcanum Toscana 2019 $27.99 compare at $38+
93 Points James Suckling
Blackberry, fresh rosemary and basil with some hot-stone undertones. Medium-to full-bodied with currants, fresh earth and hints of chocolate. Lovely texture to this. Give it three or four years to come together, but already tight knit and nicely constructed. Try after 2024.

This is always a great deal from Tuscany:

Monte Antico Supremus 2017 $21.99 compare at $30
90 Points James Suckling
Cassis, spearmint, blackcurrants and sweet vanilla on the nose. Rich, ripe and opulent, with a full body and round tannins. Lightly jammy, but flavorful, with mint chocolate on the finish. Slightly one-dimensional this year from the hot vintage. 75% sangiovese, 15% merlot and 10% cabernet sauvignon. Vegan. Drink now or hold.

We're still recommending this Montepulciano ($12.99) as the perfect pizza or pasta weeknight wine. Speaking of which my wife came up with a simple recipe that would pair great with this red. We started with a pack of ground beef on medium low heat with salt and pepper for like 4 minutes. Then added a jar of Rao's garlic tomato sauce and turned it down to low to let it simmer for about one hour covered. That's it. A quick way to make meat sauce without losing the 4 hours it takes to make a proper Bolognese. We served it with this unique pasta shape that I found at Fresh Market from maker Rustichella d'Abruzzo called Fusilli col Buco. The shape is really cool because the strands are so long that they seemed designed to break apart when cooked, giving you a pasta with different sizes on your plate. Since we're boring nowadays we served it with Pellegrino.

Next is the big, bold brother from the the Montepulciano producer above. It never disappoints. The Semis certainly tastes Italian but it's still strong and intense enough that even people who drink mostly all CA wine can still be wowed by it:

Collefrisio 'Semis' Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva 2014 $39.99 compare at $45
"Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a robust and strong grape variety, which needs respect to express its typical personality. Semis is the result of a late harvest and long maceration on the skins. The grapes come from over the years selected vineyards, which we keep as a family heritage."

Still have 90 bottles left on this white deal from the other month. Crazy deal. In fact if you buy 5 bottles of this wine along with the free Super-Tuscan, you're robbing us. Rob away. Consider adding something else to the cart as well. It's ok if not. I guess.

Broglia Gavi La Meirana 2020 SALE $9.99 compare at $21!
91 Points James Suckling
Very mineral base to this with lavender, coconut, fresh herbs and just tinges of melon and citrus fruit. Full-bodied with a dense, almost thick, minerally texture and a long, saline finish.

Shop our full Italian Collection with dozens of wines. Some additional highlights below. Remember to add any 5 Italian wines to the cart, add the Alla Guardia enter code BYGT and get that bottle no charge. Non Italian wines in the cart do not count towards the total. Only the Alla Guardia can be the free bottle. Offer expires Sunday or sooner if sold out before then.

Ciao

Tommaso
