2015 Red Burgundy Arrivals

From our email newsletter so please excuse the irreverence:

2015 Red Burgundy

Burgundy is a hell of a drug man. The 2015s will set you back some serious money but compared to Bordeaux I don't think Burgundy is overpriced yet. Unless your some crusty British man that can't live without purchasing their preferred clarets to lay down each year there are good alternatives to Bordeaux. Napa is king of the Cabernet world (I wouldn't say that with such conviction if top Bordeaux was a fourth of the cost. The price makes it irrelevant. If we really felt so inclined most of us could splurge $200 - $350 for a top Napa Cab and be alight. Most of us couldn't justify spending $1200 on a single bottle regardless of financial position). I'd even say that Rioja or top Chianti Classico make for good alternatives to Bordeaux - hope I didn't break anyone's monocle with that statement. But Burgundy man, there is only one Burgundy. Sure Willamette, Sonoma Coast and Santa Barbara are making world class Pinots but they ain't Burgundy Jack and never will be. People spend entire lifetimes obsessing over these vineyards. Rudy Kurniawan ripped off an entire industry and is doing 10 years for the stuff.

Here's Master of Wine Jeannie Cho Lee on the vintage:

The best red Burgundies are at a different level. They are sensual, seductive and ripe – a true hedonist’s wine. The nose is intoxicating, with its exuberance and exotic sweet spices and ripe berry flavors; but it is the intensity, concentration and the lingering finish that suggests they will age and evolve beautifully over the coming decade or two.

Dugat Py - I literally got lucky in scoring these bottles from a top cult producer. Saturday I was scrol
ling through all 10,555 skus from my main distributor as I do at least once a month and noticed them. After my order arrived on Monday they were all gone. To my rep Ian you owe me at least half your commission on these.

Bernard Dugat-Py Bourgogne Rouge 2015 $69.99
Dugat-Py Bourgogne Cuvee Halinard 2015 $84.99
Dugat Py Gevrey-Chambertin 2015 $149.99
Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Coeur de Roy 2015 $169.99
Dugat-Py Vosne-Romanee Vieilles Vignes 2015 $229.99

Next up another impeccable domaine:

Meo-Camuzet Fixin 2015 $59.99
Meo-Camuzet Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Boudots 1er Cru 2015 $189.99
Meo-Camuzet Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Murgers 1er Cru 2015 $189.99
Méo Camuzet Nuits-Saint-Georges aux Argillas 1er Cru 2015 $169.99
Méo Camuzet Vosne-Romanée les Chaumes 1er Cru 2015 $189.99

Meo-Camuzet Echezeaux Grand Cru Les Rouges du Bas 2015 $469.99 (1 bottle available)

Plus this guy: Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots 2015 $139.99

And I want to mention two 2014s from this excellent winery at discounted prices because change of importer:

Jean Grivot "Les Charmois" Nuits-St-Georges 2014 $59.99
Jean Grivot 'Clos de Vougeot' Grand Cru 2014 $179.99

I hope to score some 2015 Grivot next month. The Charmois will probably be at least a hundred bucks in that vintage.

If you have any 2015 Burgs on your wishlist let me know and I'll try to sniff out for you. Email Tom@craftcurd.com.
