Fuligni Ginestreto Rosso di Montalcino 2015 - 750ml

$ 35.00

90 Points Vinous

The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino Ginestreto is another very beautiful wine from Fuligni. Soft and inviting, the 2015 is really expressive today. Unlike many 2015s, Fuligni's Rosso retains a good bit of freshness. Sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel and spice all develop in a very pretty, mid-weight Rosso that will drink well for a number of years.

Additional Details

The Fuligni Rosso di Montalcino bears the name Ginestreto and, for many years, has been well-known on the market as a product of high quality due to an attentive selection of grapes. Partially aged for about six months in French oak tonneaux, it bears a strong fruity flavor which can complement an endless array of dishes.

Rosso di Montalcino is a great value red wine from Montalcino, home of the world-famous Brunello. Rosso di Montalcino can often be produced from a younger vine of a soon-to-be Brunello winemaking vine, or not aged quite as long as the required 5 years of ageing with 2 years in wood. Many of the local Italians turn to Rosso for a great quality, everyday drinking red wine. The 2015 Vintage is said to be a vintage of a generation, and this Rosso has been aged just as long. The Fuligni family have their roots in Venice, which is depicted with the cities symbol of a Lion on the Fuligni Rosso’s label. Though in 1770 the family received some land in the Tuscan coastal region of Maremma, before settling further inland, in Montalcino in the early 1900’s. They established their Montalcino winery in 1923, before the regions struggles during World War II, and well before the regions boom period and international fame recognition that it has enjoyed since 1970. The Estate is now owned by Maria Flora Fuligni and Roberto Guerrini Fuligni. The Estate is set on a 16th century Medici. The grounds are as stunning as the wines.

Altitude varies between 1250-1480 feet above sea level. Exposure is mainly eastern and southeastern, and terrain consists of stony/clayey, hillside "galestro" marls. The soil is low in organic components — therefore conducive to minuscule yields. Crops are further cut back by the vines’ age (12-30 years), their density, severe pruning and green harvest. The newly added vineyards are even more densely planted, 10 to 12 years old and at a slightly lower altitude of 984 feet, on predominantly clayey terrain better suited to Merlot. The grapes are vinified separately according to cru, in a classically inspired international style.
