91 Points Wine Enthusiast - #91 Top 100 of 2020

Apple and other white fruit aromas come with a touch of lanolin, while this is fresh yet rounded on the palate. Nice flavors of golden apple, white stone fruits and sea salt finish with good length.

The 2019 Granbazan Etiqueta Verde Albariño, is a crisp, citrus-scented white wine that changed how we look at Spain, and Albariño in particular. Energetic, with lime zest and oyster shells, and soulful with unforgettable notes of peach blossom, it finishes with an unforgettable hint of salinity that only the best Albariños boast. From a country known for full-bodied reds, this is a stunning light white that flips the script and got us thinking Spain can do it all.

On June 29th 2020, the winning wines of the BACO Harvest Awards 2019 were proclaimed, and we received the pleasant news that our Albariño Granbazán Etiqueta Verde had been awarded the Golden Baco Award. And how could it be from another shape, we wanted to share this great news with you.

The BACO awards organized by the Spanish Wine Tasting Union, represent a great boost for young wines and one of the most important events in the wine sector at the national level.

Ask a Spanish wine professional to name the leading and best Albarino, and chances are they'll reply Granbazan. Founded in 1981, Granbazan was the original quality pioneer in the region, the first estate to invest in modern winemaking equipment and trained enologists, the first to use clean, free run juice and cool fermentation and to realize the world class potential of the Albarino grape.

Granbazan farms 17 hectares of Albarino vines in Val do Salnes, the sub-region of the Rias Baixas which is centered around the town of Cambados. Val do Salnes is the site of the oldest Albarino plantations. It is also the coldest and wettest of the five sub-regions. The average temperature for the year is 55°F and it rarely exceeds 85°F, even in the hottest part of the summer. Grapes are trained in the traditional pergola fashion and soils are based on granite with alluvial topsoil.

Granbazan remains ahead of the chasing pack, with its privileged terroir of granite soils planted with mature vines close to the sea, and its continuing commitment to excellence.

The wine spends three months on the lees, in tank.
