There are few German wineries that enjoy such a legendary reputation as the Johann Josef (J.J.) Prüm winery from Wehlen in the Mosel. Typical Mosel and classic in style, the wines live from their lively play of acidity and sweetness. The unmistakably filigree, characterful Rieslings from the best central Mosel sites such as Graacher Himmelreich or Wehlener Sonnenuhr regularly demonstrate their capabilities.
The Prüm family’s roots in the Mosel region of Germany date back as far as 1156, making it one the country’s preeminent winemaking dynasties. The roots of the winery go back to the early 19th century, the company in its present form was founded in 1911 as a result of a division of the estate, when after the death of Mathias Prüm the property was divided among his seven children. At that time, not only the J.J. Prüm Winery came into being - the Dr. Loosen, S.A. Prüm, Christoffel Prüm, Pauly-Bergweiler and Studert-Prüm Wineries, which also belong to the Mosel elite of our days, also go back to this heritage. Mathias' son Johann Josef and subsequently his son Sebastian Alois soon developed an unmistakable style: their fruity Rieslings were already among the most sought-after in the region. A style that was to serve as a model for future generations and was to be decisively developed further by today's vintner Manfred Prüm. He took over his father's business together with his brother in 1969, and since 2003 Manfred's daughter Katharina Prüm has also been working in the winery. She, like her father who holds a doctorate in law, has increasingly taken over responsibility for the traditional winery in recent years.
Prüm Riesling is something very special: reserved and very delicate in its youth, it develops over decades into a highly complex masterpiece. J.J.'s emotionally touching unique wines embody an incomparable transparency with their singular, floating, translucent fragrance and their dancing expression on the tongue. Its uniqueness is due on the one hand to the very special terroir, and on the other hand to the utmost care with which the Prüm vineyard and cellar are worked.

Shipping wine around the country is very expensive. We charge about a third less than what it actually costs us. If you need to return your order (or if the wine gets returned back to us because you were unable to receive it after 3 attempts and you didn't email us to make other arrangements), we need to collect a return shipping fee that is up to double the amount of the shipping you paid. Upon receiving the wine back we will refund for the wine minus the initial shipping cost. In the event that we make a mistake we work with you to fix whatever went wrong at no additional cost to you.
