94 Points Wine Enthusiast - Cellar Selection

Elegant and vibrant, this well-concentrated and well-balanced wine is well worth finding for the most-special occasions. Lemon cream and toasted oak aromas, luscious pear and marzipan flavors and great acidity all come together beautifully. It has a long finish and will have a long life. Best from 2023.

Additional Details

Larry Hyde founded Hyde Vineyards in the heart of the Carneros Napa Valley AVA in 1979. It consisted of 100 acres, but has grown in size over the years to 192 planted acres. Hyde Vineyards has been listed in the “top five California vineyards” and has long been hailed as a grand cru-caliber site, primarily known for its Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit, used by some of the most highly acclaimed wine producers in Napa and Sonoma Valley. In 2009, Larry debuted his own small production Pinot Noir program and the dream of owning his winery was born.  Today, the Hyde’s own an estate winery showcasing several varieties from their unique terroir and Larry’s wine embodies the love and dedication to the land he so proudly farms.

This vintage did not see a lot of rain but was overall a moderate growing season. Light rain during bloom lowered crop levels, however, the berries that remained were concentrated.  A heat spike during August slowed down the ripening of the grapes giving the fruit depth and great flavors.  With the unfortunate occurrence of the 2017 fires, we were lucky enough to have picked all our fruit and secured in barrels before the smoke settled in.
