Lucienne Pinot Noir 'Smith Vineyard' 2017 - 750ml
92 Points Vinous
Shimmering red. Powerful, mineral-tinged red berry preserve and cherry qualities on the expressive nose, which shows a sexy floral nuance. Chewy and precise on the palate, offering energetic raspberry, bitter cherry and rhubarb flavors and a touch of licorice. Finishes very long and tense, with fine-grained tannins folding smoothly into the wine's sappy fruit.
At Lucienne they produce three limited-production, vineyard-designated Lucienne Pinot Noirs from their estate in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County. In part, these wines owe their seductive nature to clonal selection. There is an array of Pinot Noir clones, or slight genetic variations, planted in the vineyards. Each clone contributes a desired color, aroma, flavor, texture or structural element to the finished wine.
